Monteverde Lodge
Bordering the Monteverde Reserve and the charming town of Santa Elena is the lesser-known Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. The 765-acre conservation area is one of the few community-administered reserves in the country, and entry fees go towards protecting its ecological health and supporting community development and education. Santa Elena sits on the Caribbean side of the Divide and occupies a higher elevation of primary and secondary forests than its neighbors. Its cooler temperatures favor cloud formation, increased moisture, and the development of complex ecosystems within dense plant life – perfect habitats for countless bird species and other wildlife. Short, intermediate, and long trails are available for visitors, from easy to challenging.
