Monteverde Lodge
High in the mountains where Costa Rica’s continental divide splits the country in two like a bony spine, you don’t need to look up to see clouds – they are all around you.
At nearly a mile above sea level, the lush tropical rainforests of Monteverde are perennially shrouded in visible water vapor, a misty fog consisting of ground-level clouds that has given rise to the term “cloud forest.”
In the middle of this magical destination sits Monteverde Lodge and Gardens. Offering 31 sumptuously appointed guestrooms and a secluded swimming pool, it’s within walking distance of Monteverde’s main town, Santa Elena. But it feels like it’s in another world.
Monteverde Lodge is framed by designer gardens and a private reserve teeming with wildlife, beckoning you to explore its trails. Our expert naturalist guides will show you the secret spots in Monteverde’s mysterious forests, inviting you to view exotic birds, slumbering sloths and delicate orchids.
Accommodations
Our rooms offer plush pillow-top beds, private balconies, nightly turndown service, soft bathrobes and free WiFi. All rooms have delightful forest or garden views, and you’ll wake up to the sound of birdsong and the gurgling of a nearby creek. The hotel’s ambience is rustic and tranquil, imbued by the warmth and aroma of a wood fireplace.
Our Cusine- El Jardin Restaurant
Our El Jardin Restaurant is consistently acclaimed among the best restaurants in Monteverde, offering a gastronomic experience featuring surprising fusions of flavor crafted with local ingredients. Complement your meal with a selection from the extensive wine list, or try our signature cocktail, the Mono capuchino, made with pineapple juice, rum, coconut cream, Malibu mandarin lemon juice and bitter drops.
Our staff, drawn from the local community, has a passion for providing hospitality and warmth that’s second to none. Discover the friendliness of the people from what’s often called the happiest country in the world.
At 4,662 feet (1,440 m) above sea level, Monteverde is among Costa Rica’s most popular destinations, a welcome retreat from the beaches (and heat) for which the country is better known. Many visitors are unaware that an ecosystem like this even existed – a dense jungle that’s refreshingly cool and eerily misty, like something out of a tale by the Brothers Grimm.
Monteverde is also one of Costa Rica’s premier adventure capitals, with ziplining, bungee jumping and hanging bridges, and other attractions include museums dedicated to bats, snakes and frogs. The charming village of Santa Elena is full of souvenir shops and good restaurants.
