What blew me away most about Monteverde Lodge was the friendliness of the staff. The lodge is small, so after your first day there they know your name, your room, and if you prefer bottled or regular water and where you like to sit in their restaurant. They make an effort to greet you by your name (especially Oscar, the waiter who had a never ending happy smile on his face and who made our stay so enjoyable) and do everything they could do to make you comfortable. (For example, we came down with a virus while there, and they offered to make special-to-order food for us and bring it to our rooms, when they don't normally provide room service.)

It is a "rustic elegance" type of lodge that allows you to unplug and "live the simple life" enjoying nature, good food, a good book, etc. The lodge itself is very good looking, has an indoor hottub with a large glass wall that has "jungle-type" plants growing over and into it, to make it have an "outdoor" type of vibe, a beautiful garden and nature paths, and the restaurant is great!

There is no gym, but free wifi as well as an internet and "library" room which I thought was nice.

This is the place to stay in Monteverde/Santa Elena!

Our Response

Dear Devon D,

Thank you for the great description of Monteverde Lodge & Gardens. I think you really nailed the atmosphere in your review, and I’m glad to see how well you connected, both with the lodge ambience and the staff.

I am not surprised you enjoyed the presence of Oscar, he really is a great guy, and we are proud to have him. I asked Oscar about his open attitude once and he told me the following: “I like that guest know me by name and are not shy about letting me know how they like their drinks or asking me for a special dish.”

I was sorry to hear you came down with a virus during your stay, but I am glad you were still able to enjoy the Lodge.

I hope you can come back and visit us again.

Sincerely,

Natalie Ewing

Smokers Be Aware!
Costa Rica has recently passed one of the strictest smoking regulations in the world; hotels are 100% SMOKE FREE.
If you are a guest at the hotel, and want to smoke, by law you are required to leave the property. This is a 300 meter walk to the road outside the main gate, day or night, rain or shine. We realize that this is very inconvenient, but it’s the law. There is an $800 fine for breaking this law.
