I wish to echo what lots of folks have already said about Monteverde Lodge. This is a fabulous property that is a testament to the high standards of tourism one finds in Costa Rica these days. The beauty of the property combined with the professional and warm stance of the staff make this a terrific place to stay. I would, if possible, stay in a superior room as it has a nice balcony overlooking the forest. There is a small butterfly garden on the property that was really engaging. We have been to Costa Rica before but not to this property. I can't imagine not staying here again and certainly checking out the other lodges they are connected to.
It fills us with pride and joy to hear that Monteverde Lodge is a testament to the high standards of tourism. This is what we work for every day in every area of our Lodge. Seeing this review it tells us that we are doing things right and that our effort and commitment are being showed in our actions.
I agree with you about the balcony rooms. They have a beautiful view to the forest. The balcony is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings or at sunset. The Lodge has a new feature which is the Butterfly Garden; a magic place to stay for a while and just admire the peaceful flight of the butterflies.
We believe that a hotel is not only a place to stay for a few days but is also a place to construct memories. It helps if it has a good combination of beauty and quality service. We are glad that you found us. Hope to see you again in a new journey through Costa Rica.

My family of 6 spent 3 nights at Monteverde Lodge in December 2014. The lodge is small and wonderful. The grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed hiking around the property and visiting the newly built pool area. The butterfly garden is peaceful. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner as part of our stay - all meals were delicious. The staff was so friendly. The lodge is within walking distance to town - and very close to a grocery store. We stayed in 2 lower level rooms with a great view of the forest. I would definitely return - and stay longer next time.
Please do come and see us again! For a stay of longer than 3 nights, I highly recommend that you contact us so that we can work with you to plan your activities. There are so many different reserves, birding spots and attractions to visit in Monteverde, you would have time to explore these and enjoy the lodge, the pool and the gardens.
Since you enjoyed Monteverde Lodge so much, you may want to consider including our sister lodge, Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, for your next trip. You can find reviews on this lodge right here on Trip Advisor.
Looking forward to seeing you again!

Amazing food and staff (a must stay if you are Celiac and want to eat well while traveling through Costa Rica) More
This review starts and ends with the restaurants wonderful head chef Federico. I have Celiac’s disease and several other food allergies (soy/dairy/shellfish) and it’s often difficult to eat out while traveling – not here! Federico was well informed as to the proper steps that need to be taken to serve safe gluten free foods and even cooked all my food in brand new equipment (pots/pans/knifes/ect.) that the kitchen had just received. The first night he even sent up cutting board and knife still in their package along with mangos and other fruits. This act sealed the deal and we knew Federico was our man. He went out of his way to make sure I had plenty of options, even purchasing GF pasta and pancake mix. I dined on traditional Tico breakfasts (rice/beans/eggs) or pancakes, and for dinner had an amazing pasta with a coconut sauce, these delicious fried yucca balls, and a trio of dairy free sorbets. My parents, who are not Celiac, thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well, and we all enjoyed talking with Federico – here’s to hoping he opens up a restaurant in the US!
We stayed two nights at the Monteverde Lodge but it wasn’t enough! There is so much to do and see in the town that I’d recommend a minimum of three nights. The rooms as great, comfy beds, no AC but not needed as it’s quite chilly at night, and pretty good wifi. Our room had a little deck, which we used to dry off our rain gear and spy on coati and hummingbirds in the garden below. We were lucky to have dinner in the butterfly pavilion which was pretty neat, definitely worth the time to check it out. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and there are many little trails to explore. We didn’t use the pool because it was quite rainy during our stay but it certainly looked nice. We used the hotel as a Launchpad for touring the cloud forest as well as a coffee tour, and it proved to be the perfect location. It’s also a short walk, maybe 10-15 minutes, to town where there’s lots to do (reptile house/orchid garden/shopping/ect.)
Perfect spot to stay in Monteverde, comfortable rooms, wifi, and amazing food and staff (a must stay if you are Celiac and want to eat well while traveling through Costa Rica).
Wow! What a great review. I was very happy to send it along to Federico this morning. Among the many reasons we consider ourselves lucky to have him is that he is part of a group of contemporary young chefs that are working to add a modern touch to Costa Rican cuisine. It’s pretty exciting to watch, and it’s great that a big part of this movement includes finding ways to delight with different dietary requirements. So here’s to us hoping he doesn’t move to the US ;)
It sounds like you really connected with the Lodge during your stay, and I enjoyed reading about it. We agree with you about recommending a 3 night stay. Actually we officially recommend 2-4 nights, being certain that one night is not enough to experience all Monteverde and the lodge has to offer, but also recognizing that in a country with as much to see as Costa Rica, it’s difficult to justify more than 3 nights in any one place.
Thanks again for the review. I hope the rest of your travels were a joy!
